Our 100th Day of School!

We had SO much FUN on our 100th day of School!  We celebrated being 100 Days SMARTER by dressing as 100 year olds, practicing couting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s, playing the game Race to 100, writing about what we will be like when we are 100 and using 100 items to build things (see our 100th day STEM pictures below).  And of course we added to our dress up fun with a little technology you see your 100 year old below???

Dental Health Month

For Dental Health Month, our STEM involved the effects of soda on our teeth.  We soaked some eggs in soda for only a few hours.  We then spent some time using toothpaste and toothbrushes to clean our teeth.  We worked in small groups and each team member got two minutes to brush.  We were AMAZED at how little of the color came off.  Brushing did help but did not fix the discoloration.  It was fun - and messy! - learning!  Thanks to Dr. Miklesh and Midwest Dental for the 'dental bibs.' They came in very handy!!!

Our Christmas Celebration

We enjoyed such fun activities with the other kindergarten classes and first grade classes the day before Winter Break!  Here is a peek at our day:

We started with a Holiday Sing Along!  All five classes gathered in our room and Mrs. Erikson was kind enough to share her guitar and singing talent with us.  It was a festive event as we sang so many songs that we knew!

As we were singing, we got a VERY special visitor!

We took a break for music class with Mrs. Zeiher, and then met back up with the other classes in the art room to complete a special wintery project.  It was fun to work together with friends from all the rooms!

After lunch and recess, we headed back to our room where we decorated Christmas cookies (thank you Mrs. Schurk!) and had a little time for a Shake Break.  Finally at the end of the day, we took our special snack to the library and watched a Christmas movie.  It was a relaxing way to end a very busy day!

Happy Holidays from All of Us to All of You!

A Shelf for An Elf

Miss Evraets led us in a fun STEM activity where we got to build a shelf with popsicle sticks and play dough for an Elf to sit on!  Here is a snapshot of our work:

Blessing Bags!

Thank you again for your generous donations to our Blessing Bags!  I am blown away by the amount of bags we were able to make!  Before filling out bags, we reread the book I Feel Thankful and revisited the conversation about how lucky we are to have things that others may not (like a place to live, a bed to sleep in, and food to eat).  It was so amazing to have this conversation with your children and hear how willing they are to help those in need.  Thank you for making this conversation and this project possible.  It always feels good to help others!
